Birthday trip to New Orleans!

A fantastic weekend trip to New Orleans with my daughter, Nikki. We had such a wonderful laid back fun time...girl time. This trip was made possible by my sweet husband. He is so thoughtful!!

This trip the city was pretty full...the first Mardi Gras parade of the season in the French Quarter. So happens it was also my first Mardi Gras parade. It was the Krewe du Vieux. Let's just say it was fun fun fun and makes all other parades seem rather PG rated.

We watched it on Royal Street. (Which by the way, has become our new most favorite street in New Orleans.) We found a nice spot in front of a store. Turns out the store was a wig shop which is apparently the Mecca of parade people. As they went by they bowed and paid homage. And people wanted in the wig shop in the worse way. Why? I have no idea, but only a select few made the cut. All added to the weirdness of the whole evening.

We stayed at the Pelham Hotel. That is where Drew and I have stayed a couple of times and like it a lot. It is in walking distance to most everything. Our hotel room this time, due to the amount of people in New Orleans, was right next to the elevator and didn't have a window. Therefore, we were in a timeless space warp which was interrupted occasionally by the whirr of the elevator shaft and karaoke. (Karaoke in the elevator??? I have no idea.) And our bed seemed to be lower at the head than the foot, so every morning I woke up completely puffy from gravity. But we slept when we wanted and had a marvelous time.
